put2gether pick: heavenly heelz

You are in a hurry. Your arms are full. You have a long walk. You’re probably running late. So there you are, moving as quickly as you can across the parking lot, when you find yourself stepping right out of your shoe. Literally right out. And then sometimes right into a puddle.

I had almost given up on my gorgeous but strapless heels. Somehow, my heel always manages to slip out of its resting place and usually lands on the outside of the shoe, completely collapsing the walls of my heels. This is, of course, equally as painful.

I’ve tried different fixes – including masking tape, duct tape and double-stick tape believe it or not – to no avail, so I sadly shelved those lovely stilettos. That was until now.

A colleague at work just introduced to Heavenly Heelz and I’m back in shoe heaven! I slipped them into the back of my heels and not only did they stay in place, they actually held my heel stay firmly in place as well! So tomorrow, I will be boldly opening that closet door and pulling out my favorite slippery strapless numbers and giving them a second chance to live out their well-heeled destiny. Thank you, Foot Petals, for salvaging my stilettos!

put2gether pick: jonesing for j.crew

Maybe it’s because I just watched a back-to-back marathon of Royal Pains on Bravo, but all I can think about is Hamptons style. So not surprising that I’m seriously loving everything J.Crew right now. Their casual cool is perfect for a stroll in Southampton. Here are a few of my faves:

Craving a Cardi: Loving the two-toned look of the Palisade Cardigan and the delicate wrap at the waist. I’d go for the charcoal and black, natch, over crisp white shorts and a delicate tissue tee.

Palisade Cardigan

Cowboy Couture. I’ve been on the hunt for a great denim shirt for about 5 years now. Yep, five years. Somehow, my favorite denim shirt didn’t quite make the move from our last home, so I’ve been looking for  a great replacement. Here are two fun ones:

  • The Selvedge Chambray shirt looks like it fell right out of your man’s closet, but it’s got a tailored sensibility. Love the color, love the cloth, love the cut.

  • The Denim Utility Shirt-Jacket puts a fun twist on an old concept. Nipped in at the waist with a bit of a tie, you can layer or leave it alone.

Add It On: And there are far too many accessories to wax upon about (though I did just pick up their pearl and silk wrapped necklace on sale for $19.99!), but had to share this belt. Adds the edge that I love, but so pretty in white!

Do you love J.Crew too?

put2gether pick: jeggings

Yes, there is something called a jegging. You start with a legging, throw in some denim fabric and spandex, and voila, you have a jegging. The ultimate skinny jean, jeggings are as comfortable as wearing your favorite leggings, but can go from casual to cocktail party in a snap. Here are a few favorite styles:

  • Black Orchid 5 Pocket ($105)  jeggings are a celeb favorite (Reese Witherspoon, Whitney Port), plus they are a nicer price point than many high-end jeggings that range from $200-$300. Great for afternoon of shopping with wedge heels and a bold graphic tee.

Black Orchid

  • Another celeb favorite (Lucy Liu, Kirsten Dunst), Denver-made So Low jeans ($92) come in this delicious dark wash – great for a night out with the girls. Think flowy tank, statement necklace and nude heels.

So Low

  • British shop Topshop makes a great utilitarian pair ($70) for wandering through the Farmer’s market or off to brunch. Just add a tailored plaid shirt and ballet shoes to complete.

Topshop

  • Another great dark-wash option is American Eagle’s version ($40) – a great price point and glam look. On cooler days, you can tuck them into boots and layer with a long cardie.

  • And for all of our mommas-to-be, ASOS makes a rocking maternity pair ($34) – love it!

ASOS

So once you have those jeggings in hand, here are a few more thoughts:

  • Go with the Flow. Pair with something flowing on top. The tight all-over look can make you look bigger than you are, especially when the top goes longer than your hips. Go for shirts and sweaters that aren’t elasticized or banded at the bottom.
  • Go to Great Lengths: Get the right length for your leg. Mimic the length of your regular jeans.

How you tried jeggings yet? If so, what do you think?

put2gether pick: let’s romp!

Looking for a fun option for the summer? Give the romper a whirl. Back in full force this summer, the updated romper looks great in bold colors with small prints. My favorite style features spaghetti straps (which keeps the overall look very light and playful), but there are options for everyone, from strapless to short sleeves.

Billabong romper ($34)

And it goes easily from day to night.

  • By day, pair with gladiator sandals, big oval shades, an oversized bag and a floppy straw hat
  • By night, throw on a tuxedo-style blazer, leather and cork heels, and a metallic clutch
  • Though I love statement jewelry with just about anything, I suggest layering a few delicate silver or gold necklaces to complement the lightness of the romper

Ready for a romp?

put2gether pick: D-Fuzz-It

I’ve found a new favorite sweater saver that I just had to share – the D-Fuzz-It. Yes, it does de-fuzz any sweater or fabric – I just love it when a product is so aptly named. Just hold the fabric taut with one hand and lightly brush the D-Fuzz-It over the surface, and voila! – no more unsightly pills.

D-Fuzz-It

The D-Fuzz-It is supposed to work on most fabrics, but so far I’ve only tried it on sweaters. If you have one, let me know what you think or if you have another favorite sweater saver! (My other fave is the Sweater Stone.)

Available at most major grocery retailers and pharmacies or Amazon. (I got mine at my fave local consignment shop Twice the Style for just $3.99).
